Sabajón (Colombian Egg Nog)
This post is also available in: Español (Spanish) English
Colombian Sabajón is the typical drink of excellence in my country during the Christmas season. It’s very similar to egg nog in North America, but the difference is that Sabajón is made using aguardiente instead of bourbon, brandy, or rum.
Our Sabajón is one of those drinks that have a delicious taste and texture, which we have to know how to control ourselves so we would be happier than we usually are, in other words, drunk. Children can also drink this beverage, but alcohol should not be present.
This drink brings back so many memories, like the time my mother was preparing many bottles in December, but she always had to hide them because there would be someone that came home from school and drank more than two glasses…
This is the first time I prepared my mother’s recipe. I plan on having many bottles in the fridge that would later be served with the traditional natilla and buñuelos during the Christmas novenas.
- 2 boxes instant vanilla pudding
- 4 cups milk
- ½ cup rum
- ½ cup aguardiente
- ½ cup condensed milk
- Prepare the puddings with the milk.
- Let cool and thicken.
- Blend this mix with the rest of the ingredients.
- Always keep this drink cold.
